Make your own wedding invitations!

wedding invitation ideasWhether you're trying to save money on your wedding or just want to create something with a bit of you in it, cheap and easy home made wedding invitations are a fantastic place to start. Enjoy!

There is plenty of inspiration around for card making - there's always Google of course, but pop into your local newsagents to find all the different craft magazines and you'll soon be overwhelmed with ideas!

It's a good idea to sketch out a few design ideas before you start shopping. List the elements you have already decided... this could be colours, shapes or types of invitation. Then you're ready to start playing with designs!

Inspiration for DIY wedding invitations

easy diy wedding invitesSites like Handy Hippo which have templates and step by step instructions for making wedding invitations are fantastic. Adapt their designs - you don't have to stick to their colour schemes, or their flowers, or their own products - shop around if you don't see quite what you need.

Wedding magazines feature lots of small wedding businesses selling handmade invitations. Get a feel for what works and what doesn't. Wedding invitations with a big bow on the front might not be your thing (not really mine either)... while simple designs work really well. Make a little scrap book of pictures you like, then when you've filled a page, give them marks out of ten or stars out of five. Recreate your favourite!

The High Street is worth investigating for wedding invitation ideas. Browse for inspiration in Clintons, M&S and WHSmiths, and also look in little gift shops - my local post office for example has some lovely handmade cards. Don't just look at wedding invitations, anything handmade can be inspirational!

Great new wedding invitation magazine!

Why didn't they think of this before?! Wedding Invites is a fantastic little magazine for anyone considering making wedding invitations. If that's you, get your copy quick!

It's such a fantastic idea to have everything in one place: practical tips, "how to" features and loads of pictures to inspire you.

There's far more in there than I can put on this website - so it comes very highly recommended!

Formats for Your Wedding Invitations

Wedding Invitations to Copy

These are wedding invitation designs I've made over the last couple of years. They're not copyrighted, so please feel free to print off the pictures and copy the designs.

Be careful when browsing the internet for inspiration. Be aware that all wedding stationers copyright their designs. If you recreate them and post pictures on your blog, website or on a wedding forum, you may be in breach of copyright legislation.

Where to buy invitation supplies

PDA Card & Craft is my personal favourite for blank card and inserts for your DIY invitations. Choose from a great range of quality paper and card textures, sizes, colours and effects. Delivery is always quick and service is fantastic.

Handy Hippo are great - they're one of the quickest to deliver. Again you can get cards and wedding embellishments here.
